President Trump’s national security adviser on Thursday said that he discussed increasing economic ties with Greenland during a meeting with the U.S. ambassador to Denmark.
John Bolton tweeted a photo with Ambassador Carla Sands at the White House. The two discussed Arctic and energy security, trade and boosting ties with Greenland, including investing in “mineral exploration projects and airport upgrades.”

The meeting came days after President Trump was supposed to meet with Danish leaders in Copenhagen. But the president abruptly canceled the trip last month after Danish and Greenlandic officials rejected the possibility of the U.S. purchasing Greenland.
The president had privately mused about buying the island, which is an autonomous Danish territory, and later said it made sense as a “strategic” purchase.
