Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fire that burned down a synagogue in Minnesota.

Duluth Police Chief Mike Tusken announced Sunday that Matthew Amiot was arrested and being held on a felony arson charge in connection with last week’s fire that destroyed the 119-year-old Adas Israel synagogue, according to NBC 6 KBJR.

Tusken said Sunday at a press conference announcing the arrest that they do not believe the fire is a hate crime at the moment but will continue to investigate the incident.

“We will turn every stone in this investigation to figure out what happened,” Tusken said last week after the fire.

He added that no accelerants were used to start the fire.

While the fire early Monday morning destroyed the synagogue and left it with major structural damage, firefighters were able to recover some of the religious artifacts inside. Eight Torah scrolls important to the congregation were among the artifacts saved.
