The Washington Post, citing statements from Maria Butina’s attorney and jail officials, reported on Saturday that she had been move to a jail in Alexandria for undisclosed reasons.

An Alexandria jail spokesperson declined to comment to the Post, while a spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service told the paper, “As a matter of policy, we do not disclose information related to individual prisoners to protect their privacy, safety and security.”

The Department of Justice did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

Butina’s attorney, Robert N. Driscoll, told The Post that Butina was not given a reason for why she was moving jails and said that the transfer occurred between 5 and 6 p.m. on Friday.

Her transfer came just days after the Russian embassy in Washington accused the U.S. of mistreating Butina with poor jail conditions.
